Project Overview
Delivered by Leighton Group in partnership with Almabani Group, a leading Saudi Arabian engineering and construction company. The Saudi Strategic Storage Program (SSSP) stands as a flagship national infrastructure initiative, designed to significantly strengthen the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia energy security and strategic reserves capacity. As global energy markets continue to evolve and geopolitical dynamics influence supply chains, the SSSP was conceived to ensure long-term resilience, stability, and operational readiness in the storage and distribution of refined petroleum products.
Scope of Work
The following work packages were executed by Almabani as part of this project:
Development of large-scale subterranean storage caverns engineered to safely store refined petroleum products under high-pressure and controlled conditions.
Advanced geotechnical excavation and stabilization works, including drilling, blasting, and reinforcement of underground chambers.
Installation of high-capacity pipeline networks connecting storage sites to refineries, distribution terminals, and export hubs.
Deployment of sophisticated pumping, monitoring, and automation systems to regulate storage conditions and ensure operational efficiency.
Integration of advanced safety systems, including leak detection, fire suppression, and environmental protection mechanisms.
Construction of surface-level control centers, maintenance facilities, and logistics hubs supporting underground operations.
Implementation of robust security infrastructure to safeguard critical national energy assets.
